How to use deck cleaner
Cleaning your deck or outdoor furniture is not that difficult – provided you use the right cleaning products and tools. But remember to protect surrounding vegetation before you start cleaning with the deck cleaner.
- Apply the cleaner to the surface to be cleaned using a brush or a low-pressure sprayer.
- Leave on for 5-10 minutes.
- Scrub the surface using a scrubbing brush, patio cleaner, or coarse cleaning sponge and then rinse off. You can use a high-pressure washer if you wish, as long as the water jet is not too hard. You can also rinse off with water and a clean scrubbing brush.
- If necessary, you can repeat the process one more time.
Cleaning before painting
Before you paint or oil your decking, wooden furniture, or other wooden surfaces outdoors, it is important that you clean them thoroughly. The surface to be painted or treated must be free of dirt and old paint to ensure a smoother, lasting result.
Frequently asked questions about deck cleaning
Can I wash decking with a high-pressure washer?
A high-pressure washer can help remove stubborn dirt. However, if you are going to use a high-pressure washer to clean your decking, the water pressure must not be too high, otherwise you may damage the wood surface.
How often should I clean my deck?
It depends on the weather conditions and how much you use your deck. An annual cleaning is usually sufficient, but you should clean it more frequently if necessary.
